Widemouth 2 Fire (Utah)

Burning for 44 days with an average daily growth of approximately 2,949 acres per day, the Widemouth 2 Fire has expanded across 129,741 acres of federal land managed by the USFS. Located two miles southwest of Kanosh, Utah, in Millard County and near Fillmore, the active blaze is now 98 percent contained while exhibiting minimal, creeping, and smoldering fire behavior within timber, litter, and understory fuels.

A modest contingent of 27 personnel is assigned to the incident under a Type 4 Incident Commander and Type 4 management, bringing the total cost of the natural-cause wildfire to $35,700,000. Despite the extensive growth over more than six weeks of activity, the broader fire landscape in the country shows a total of 3,195,047 hectares burned so far in 2026, tracking 42 percent below the two-decade average during a typical fire season that spans from June to October.
