Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
1. Introduction
Current Wildfires ("we", "our", "us") is a real-time wildfire monitoring service that uses publicly available satellite data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit our website currentwildfires.com.
2. Information We Collect
You can use the map and read the content anonymously, without registration or personal data. The information we process includes:
- Anonymous usage data through Google Analytics
- Technical cookies necessary for site functionality
- Third-party advertising cookies through Mediavine and its partners (subject to consent where applicable)
- If you subscribe to email alerts: your email address and the place you choose (a point with a radius, or a region), an optional name for that place, and your language
Subscribing to alerts is optional and uses double opt-in (we send you an email to confirm it). We use that data only to notify you when fire is detected in your area — we do not sell it or use it for anything else. Emails are sent through Resend, a third-party provider. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every alert, and when you do we stop using your data for that purpose.
3. Google Analytics (GA4)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors interact with our site. GA4 collects anonymous data such as:
- Pages visited and time spent
- Approximate country and region (not exact location)
- Device type and browser
- Referral source (how you reached the site)
Google Analytics uses cookies to generate aggregated statistics. No personally identifiable data is collected. You can learn more at Google Privacy Policy .
4. Advertising (Mediavine)
We use Mediavine to manage and display the advertisements on our site. Mediavine and its advertising partners (third-party vendors) may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to serve more relevant ads based on your browsing on this and other websites. Specifically:
- Advertising partners may use cookies and identifiers to personalize ads and measure their performance
- If you are in the EU, the UK, or another region with consent laws, we display a notice so you can accept or reject personalized advertising before those cookies load
- California residents may exercise the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” option
For more details on how Mediavine and its partners handle data and about your choices, see the Mediavine Privacy Policy .
5. NASA FIRMS Data
The fire data we display comes from NASA's FIRMS (Fire Information for Resource Management System). This data is in the public domain and freely available to anyone. We do not collect personal location data from users; the data shown on the map is satellite fire detection data.
6. Cookies
Our site uses the following types of cookies:
- Essential cookies: Required for basic site functionality, such as storing language preferences and local data cache
- Analytics cookies: Used by Google Analytics to generate anonymous usage statistics
- Advertising cookies: Used by Mediavine and its advertising partners to display relevant advertisements (subject to your consent where applicable)
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect site functionality.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Accept or reject personalized advertising through the consent notice (and change your choice at any time)
- Delete cookies through your browser settings
- Request information about the data we process
- Unsubscribe from email alerts with one click from any alert, and request deletion of your subscription data
