Terms of Service

Last updated: July 2026

Current Wildfires is NOT an emergency service. Information may be delayed, approximate, incomplete, or contain errors. Do not use it to make life-safety or evacuation decisions. In an emergency, always follow your local emergency services and official sources.

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using currentwildfires.com (the "Site"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

2. What the Site is

Current Wildfires is an independent, free project that displays wildfire information from satellite data and public sources (NASA FIRMS, Copernicus/Sentinel, official fire agencies, among others). Its purpose is informational and for general situational awareness. It is not an emergency, evacuation, or professional-advisory service.

3. No warranties ("as-is")

The Site and all its information are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the information is accurate, complete, current, or available without interruption. Satellite data has inherent delays and limitations: it may show detections that are not real fires (false positives) and may fail to detect real fires (false negatives), especially small, recent, or cloud-covered ones.

4. Not for life-safety or evacuation decisions

You must not rely on the Site for life-safety, evacuation, or any emergency decisions. The alerts and map are an additional informational layer, not a substitute for the notices, alerts, and orders of official authorities. When at risk, always follow your local emergency services and fire authorities.

5. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Current Wildfires and its operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or other damages (including, without limitation, personal injury, property damage, loss of data, or lost profits) arising from the use of, or inability to use, the Site, or from reliance on its information, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. You use the Site at your own risk.

6. Email alerts

If you subscribe to email alerts, we send them on a best-effort basis, but we do not guarantee their delivery, timeliness, or accuracy. An alert email may be delayed, fail to arrive, land in spam, or not be sent. Alerts are not a guaranteed notification system and do not replace official alerts. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link included in every email.

7. Affiliate links

Some pages may include affiliate links to third-party products (for example, Amazon). If you buy through those links, we may earn a commission, at no additional cost to you. These links are not an endorsement or warranty of any product; we do not test or verify the products, and purchase decisions are yours.

8. Third-party content and sources

The Site displays third-party data (NASA FIRMS, Copernicus/Sentinel, EFFIS, fire agencies, OpenStreetMap/CARTO maps, among others) and may link to third-party sites. We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or practices of those third parties, and their use may be subject to their own terms.

9. Intellectual property

The original content of the Site (text, design, code, and branding) is owned by Current Wildfires and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Third-party data belongs to its respective owners.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms at any time. Changes are posted on this page with the last-updated date. Continued use of the Site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Contact

If you have questions about these terms, reach us through our Contact page. For how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.
