One hundred seventeen named fires are burning around the world right now, covering an estimated 1.6 million hectares between them by satellite estimate. The biggest is Collins, in Canada, at around 301,000 hectares. Four hundred ten new fires appeared this week, and the count is holding steady compared with a week ago.
Most of the activity is in Canada (44 active fires), United States (18) and Australia (17). France is having an unusually hard year: 98,697 hectares so far, 569 % above its average.
