About wildfires in India

India experiences significant fire activity across its diverse landscapes, from the Himalayan forests of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh to the dry deciduous forests of central India. Forest fires peak during the hot, dry months of March through June, with the northwestern Himalayan states being particularly vulnerable.

Agricultural stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana creates seasonal fire events that severely impact air quality across northern India, including Delhi. Climate change and increasing temperatures are extending the fire season and intensifying fire behavior in forested areas.

This tracker monitors all satellite-detected fire activity across India's 28 states and 8 union territories in real-time.
