143 named fires are burning around the world right now, covering roughly 1.8 million hectares between them by satellite estimate. The biggest is Collins, in Canada, at around 301,240 hectares by satellite estimate. 346 new fires appeared this week, and the count is falling compared with a week ago.
Most of the activity is in Canada (44 active fires), United States (26) and Brazil (24). France is having an unusually hard year: 98,642 hectares so far, 568 percent above its average.
