One hundred forty-one named fires are burning around the world right now, covering an estimated 1.6 million hectares between them according to satellite estimates. The biggest is Collins, in Canada, at around 301,240 hectares. Three hundred ninety-three new fires appeared this week, and the count is holding steady compared with a week ago.
Most of the activity is in Canada (44 active fires), Australia (25) and United States (19). France is having an unusually hard year: 98,697 hectares so far, 569 % above its average, meaning it has burned far more than usual.
