The SOUTH CANAL- LAFAYETTE (34) Fire, located 12 miles south of Mayo near Hine in Lafayette County, Florida, remains active but is now 97% contained. The wildfire, which began on May 3, 2026, has burned 2265 acres of private land. It was started by natural causes, and the fire behavior is currently described as minimal and smoldering within heavy logging slash.
The incident is classified as a Type 3 Incident and is being managed under a Type 4 Incident Commander. There are currently 174 personnel assigned to the fire to manage the remaining containment and monitoring efforts.
