The Sheep Head Fire, which ignited on June 29, 2026, burned 1,322 acres of private land located 22 miles northwest of Walsenburg in Huerfano County, Colorado. The incident, classified as a Type 3 incident, was managed by a Type 3 Incident Commander with a crew of 24 personnel.
The fire was determined to be natural in origin and has reached 100 percent containment. Current fire behavior is reported as minimal, characterized by creeping and smoldering within two-foot brush. The total cost of the suppression efforts reached $740,000.
