The Sacaton Fire, currently active in Catron County, New Mexico, has burned 9,737 acres since it began on June 21, 2026. Located 15 miles east of Glenwood, the wildfire is being managed by a Type 3 Incident management team as a Type 3 Incident. The blaze, which originated from a natural cause, is burning through timber, grass, and understory on federal land overseen by the US Forest Service.
Fire behavior is currently characterized as minimal, with backing, creeping, and smoldering activity observed. With 161 personnel assigned to the incident, containment has reached 43 percent. The total cost of suppression efforts to date is estimated at $2,655,186.
