Burning across Elko County, the Oxley Fire has reached 100 percent containment after eight days of active suppression led by a Type 4 Incident management team and nine personnel, consuming 11,384 acres at an average daily growth rate of approximately 1,423 acres per day. Located five miles north of Wells, Nevada, the incident started naturally on August 24, 2026, and burned primarily through two-foot brush on federal land overseen by the Bureau of Land Management.

With containment now achieved, the final suppression costs have reached $1,760,000. Current fire behavior on the landscape is characterized as minimal, creeping, and smoldering.

This incident unfolds during the region's typical fire season, which spans from June to October. Nationally, the broader wildfire landscape shows a total of 3,150,304 hectares burned so far in 2026, marking a figure that is 43 percent below the two-decade average.
