The North Cayuse Fire, currently burning 15 miles east of Pendleton near Mission in Umatilla County, Oregon, has reached 4,887 acres. Since starting on July 4, 2026, the active blaze has been managed by a Complex Incident Management Team as a Type 3 Incident. Fire behavior is currently characterized by moderate activity, including creeping, smoldering, and isolated torching within timber, grass, and understory fuels.
Resources totaling 393 personnel are working to suppress the fire, which is now 66 percent contained. The incident, occurring on federal land under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, has incurred costs totaling $5,900,000.
