The Canyon Fire, a naturally caused wildfire, is currently burning in the Yukon-Koyukuk region of Alaska, located approximately 20 miles west of Rampart. Since its start on June 12, 2026, the active blaze has grown to cover 1,042.13 acres on state land managed by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Firefighters are facing a Type 4 Incident, with 35 personnel assigned to the fire under the direction of a Type 4 Incident Commander. To date, suppression efforts have cost an estimated $442,212, and containment remains at 0%.
Currently, the fire is exhibiting minimal behavior, characterized primarily by smoldering and isolated torching. It is burning through a fuel bed of timber, specifically litter and understory. Crews continue to monitor and manage the situation as they work to establish control over the active perimeter.
