Antalya — the Turkish Riviera — is a major destination for British package holidays, with resorts stretching from Kemer to Alanya. The coastal strip is developed, but the Taurus mountains behind it are pine-forested and fire-prone. In 2021, Turkey's worst fires in decades burned through Manavgat and the hills near Antalya, forcing coastal evacuations.

- Check the official risk map for Turkey the day before you travel — they update daily and are the authoritative source (see the FCDO link above).
- Know your insurance: standard travel policies often exclude wildfire disruption. Only about half of policies include "catastrophe" cover, and insurers rarely pay for "disinclination to travel" — check your wording before cancelling.
- Don't cancel early: if you're not due to travel for a week or two, wait. Airlines and operators prioritise rebooking for departures in the next few days, and cancelling early usually forfeits your right to a refund.
