A destructive 965-hectare (2,385-acre) wildfire that burned for 18 days near Villalba, Italy, has finally ended after scorching agricultural areas and sclerophyllous vegetation. Throughout its nearly three-week campaign, the blaze maintained an average daily growth of approximately 54 hectares per day. Despite the fire now being over, satellites are still picking up a single heat signature over the past 48 hours in the vicinity.
This prolonged incident unfolded during Italy's typical fire season, which runs from June to October. The event contributes to a broader national crisis, as 75,844 hectares have burned across the country so far in 2026, marking a figure that is 33% above the two-decade average.
