An intense heat signature is currently being picked up by satellites over a 200-hectare (494-acre) wildfire in the Municipal Unit of Efpalio, Greece, which has already generated 24 heat detections in the past 48 hours to mark the spread of the front. Having started on August 1, 2026, the active blaze is unfolding during the region's typical fire season, which runs from June to September.
