An intense heat signature marked the final phase of a 300-hectare (741-acre) wildfire that burned for six days near Lizarda, Brazil. Satellites detected seven heat signatures in the area over the preceding 48 hours as the blaze drew to a close, following an average daily growth of approximately 50 hectares per day since it began on August 18, 2026.
The incident unfolds during the region's typical fire season, which spans from August to October. Despite this local activity, national figures reflect a much broader slowdown: 3,683,458 hectares have burned across the country so far in 2026, marking an 88% decrease compared to the two-decade average.
