Satellites are picking up an intense heat signature from an active wildfire burning near General Jose Maria Bruguez, Paraguay. The blaze has already consumed 700 hectares, equivalent to 1,730 acres, since it started on September 28, 2026.
Reflecting the broader scale of activity in the area, sensors have detected 42 heat signatures over the last 48 hours clustering near the fire. This comes during a period when the region's typical fire season falls in the southern summer, roughly from November to March.
Despite this active front, the national picture remains subdued. Across the country, 710,718 hectares have burned so far in 2026, marking a figure that is 77% below the two-decade average.
