Burning across private land just four miles northeast of Connell, Washington, in Franklin County, the South Connell Fire has achieved full containment following a two-day run that averaged approximately 375 acres per day. Fire behavior during the incident was characterized as moderate with uphill runs and flanking through 2.5-foot tall grass.

The blaze ultimately charred 750 acres before crews brought the operation to a successful conclusion. A total of 24 personnel responded to the incident, managed under a Type 4 Incident Commander as a Type 5 Incident, with total costs reaching $250,000.

This activity occurs within a regional fire season that typically spans from June to October. On a national scale, 2,572,960 hectares have burned across the country so far in 2026, marking a figure 53% below the two-decade average.
