The Old House Branch Fire, which started on April 10, 2026, has been fully contained at 1,000 acres. Located approximately one mile east of Hampden in Mingo County, West Virginia, the human-caused blaze burned through hardwood litter on private land. Firefighters faced challenging conditions, including minimal fire behavior that occasionally escalated to wind-driven runs and torching.
Managed as a Type 4 Incident under a Type 4 Incident Commander, the response effort utilized six personnel to reach 100 percent containment. The total cost of suppressing the wildfire is estimated at $3,000.
