The Getaway Pens Fire, currently an active Type 4 incident, is burning on private land six miles northeast of Girard in Dickens County, Texas. Since starting on July 8, 2026, the blaze has consumed 1,000 acres of two-foot brush, with fire behavior characterized by moderate running and spotting.
As of now, the fire is 80 percent contained. A team of 24 personnel, managed by a Type 4 Incident Commander and the Texas A&M Forest Service, is working to suppress the fire, which was determined to be natural in origin.
