Expanding at an average rate of approximately 518 acres per day over the last three days, the Charger 2 Fire has consumed 1,555 acres of Southern Rough vegetation 16 miles northeast of Ochopee, Florida. Despite its rapid initial growth, the blaze is currently exhibiting minimal, smoldering behavior as crews work to secure the perimeter.
A Type 3 Incident management team is overseeing the suppression efforts in Collier County, with 32 personnel assigned to the federal land. The fire, which began on July 15, is now 75 percent contained, with suppression costs reaching $250,000 under the direction of the National Park Service.
